How To Protect Your Heart?

You may find yourself guilty of taking your heart for granted, not giving it the care it deserves. In fact, your heart is beating every single day non-stop to ensure food and oxygen is reaching every cell in your body, making you fully functional in every way. So, the least you can do is to prevent any harm from happening to it, especially that heart disease is a leading cause of death worldwide. 

Many factors put the heart at risk of disease, some are beyond the control like age, sex and family history, and fortunately some risks can be completely vanished. 

So be sure to follow Droobi tips in this matter, you can start applying those solutions right away: 

 

Choose healthy foods 
Your eating plan can help you lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, two main risk factors of heart disease. Limit unhealthy drinks 
Stay away as much as possible from high sugary drinks like carbonated beverages and sweetened coffees. Also limit your alcohol consumption to no more than 2 drinks per day for men and 1 drink per day for women. 


Reach and Maintain a Healthy Weight
You can do it but you may need some personalized guidance along with follow up and support. Don’t hesitate to get the professional help of a health coach to do it. Remember, carrying those extra kilograms especially around the waist are putting an extra strain on the heart and blood vessels. 

Move your body, regularly!
Physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight and lower your blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. For adults, the recommendation is  2 hours and 30 minutes per week of moderate-intensity exercise, like brisk walking or bicycling. 


Don’t smoke 
Research shows that smokers are at a higher risk of heart attacks. So, if you don’t smoke, don’t start. If you do smoke, quitting will lower your risk for heart disease. Consult with your healthcare provider, you will find that plenty of options are available for you. Many have done it and you can do it as well!  


Find healthy stress coping mechanisms
Stress may damage your blood vessels and worsen other risk factors for heart disease. In fact, stress feelings are a message from your body to slow down and find a happy space for you in the middle of the chaos. Instead of overeating, drinking, or smoking to escape from the stress, pinpoint the cause and try actively to manage it. Also, you can cope with it by exercising, meditating, and/or practicing a hobby of your choice, even for a few minutes every day. 


Sleep well 
Not getting enough sleep can be seriously heart damaging. Most adults need at least seven hours of sleep each night. Go ahead and make sleep a priority in your life: Decide what time you need to sleep to get those hours and modify your whole schedule in a way that facilitates going to bed on time. 


Get regular health screenings and take the corresponding action
Screening for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes which are 3 main risk factors for heart disease, is your way to know whether you have them or not. After knowing your numbers, collaborate with Your Health Care Team to prevent or treat those medical conditions that lead to heart disease.
